Cheatsheet for all actions using IGP:eIndexer when creating dynamic eIndexes for print, ebooks and websites using the eIndexing tools Updated: 2017-09-15
This is an indexing action summary table or cheatsheet. The major indexing actions are detailed below. Remember ID's and DPI processing must have been done and eIndexing should be the last editorial process.

Adding Terms with Item References | ||||
4 | Create a root term with an item reference | Select text reference in Writer | Click Insert button | Term is inserted into alphabetic root with a * item reference. Use Sort Index Term button to alphabetize. |
5 | Create a sub-term with an item reference | Select text reference in Writer | Double-click the target parent root term | Sub-term is inserted with a * sequentially under the highlighted term. Use Sort Index Term button to alphabetize. |
6 | Create a sub-sub-term with an item reference | Select text reference in Writer | Double Click on the target sub-term | Sub-sub-term is inserted with a * sequentially under the double-clicked sub-term. Use Sort Index Term button to alphabetize. |

Adding Item References to existing terms | ||||
9 | Add an item reference to a term (any nesting) | Select text reference in Writer | Hold Ctrl Key and double-click on target Index item, sub-term or sub-sub-term | Inserts term item * into the double-clicked term. |
Range marker references | ||||
10 | Add root term with range markers | 1. Select text at the start of the range | Click Range Start button | Nothing happens |

See and See Also References | ||||

Select the term, sub-term or sub-sub-term that will have the See reference. Click the See button. Navigate to the target I term and double click. |
The first term will have [*] inserted. This indicates it is a See reference. When formats are generated the See Term will be presented. |

Select the term, sub-term or sub-sub-term that will have the See Also reference. Click the See Also button. Navigate to the target See Also term and double click. |
The first selected term will have [**] inserted. This indicates it is a See Also reference. When formats are generated the See Also Term will be presented. |
Moving a Term | ||||
16 | Click on the term to be moved. It will be highlighted green. | Nothing |
Navigate to the term, sub-term or sub-sub-term where the selected term is to be inserted. Double-click the term. |
The term will be moved and insert as a root term, sub-term or sub-sub-term. |
Editing A Term | ||||
17 | Change the text or styles in a term. | Nothing |
Highlight the term. Click the term E button. The editing dialog will open. You can change the term spelling and styling. When finished editing click Save.

The term will be changed. If it is a root term and the alphabetic order changes it will instantly move to the new position with any sub-terms. |
18 | Make a term italic | Nothing | Click the i button on the term. It will be changed to italic. You can toggle this any number of times. | The selected term will be turned into italic text. |
Navigating to Text References | ||||
19 | Navigate to term references. | Nothing |
Ensure both the Index and Writer pages have been saved. Click on the reference *. The navigation tool will open. Click on the Up Arrow button. IGP:Writer will navigate to the book section and show the reference item in the text at the top of the page.

You can view the term reference. If you need to remove the term reference select the text and click the Remove Format button from the Writer tools. |
20 | Navigating a Range Term | Nothing |
Click on the reference *_*. The navigation tool will open with two up arrows. the left arrow navigates to the range start reference in IGP:Writer. The right arrow navigates to the range end reference in IGP:Writer. |
You can view the term reference on the page. |
Deleting a Term or Reference | ||||
21 | Delete a term | Nothing | Highlight the term. Click the term X button. |
If the term has no sub-terms it will be immediately deleted. If the term has sub-terms you will be given the option: "Deleting this term will delete all its child terms also. Do you want to delete this term?" You can cancel or continue. |
22 | Delete a sub-term | Nothing | Highlight the sub-term. Click the sub-term X button. |
If the sub-term has no sub-sub-terms it will be immediately deleted. If the sub-term has sub-sub-terms you will be given the option: "Deleting this term will delete all its child terms also. Do you want to delete this term?" You can cancel or continue. |
