The Document Processing Instruction Interface

Understanding and using the Document Processing Instruction interface. Updated: 2015-03-02

Overview

The Document Processing Instruction Setup interface is designed to break a complex operation into a set of relatively simple and straight-forward choices and tasks. It is also designed to be extensible as new format requirements emerge, and customizable for specific publisher requirements.

The DPI interface opens in a new browser window.

When you open the DPI interface you will see a set of horizontal accordion bars. YOu can expand these by clicking on them. When they are expanded they show the various processing options for each format. Click on any accordion title bar to expand it to see the processing options. Click on the bar again to collapse the accordion and hide the processing options.

Reordering the Accordion Bars

You can drag and reorder the accordion bars at any time. This allows you to move the accordion option you are working on to the top to minimize vertical scrolling to the extent possible.

The accordions options will always open in the sequence shown above. Any reordering of the accordions is not stored so after you save and close the interface, and then reopen again, it will be back in the default order sequence.

Reset, Cancel and Save

There are three buttons that act on the entire DPI interface. The individual accordions menus do not have individual save or reset buttons.

Reset

Click the Reset button to restore all changes made to the default template values. The biggest effect of this is on the Section Reordering. Any text that has been changed or options set in the Section Reordering accordion will be lost.

Use this option with care.

Cancel

Click the Cancel button to close the DPI interface without making any changes. You can also use the standard browser close window option.

Save

Click the Save button to send all configuration changes made to the server. Please notice that this can take some time, especially if the Section Reordering list is large.

Do not close the interface until the operation is complete.

If you reopen after editing and saving, DPI will open with the previous options that have been set. Saving will retain all previous settings and only update your new changes. You can save as often as you like.

The DPI options are maintained independently for every book if they are saved. This is included into the IGP:FoundationXHTML package.
