Format File Names and processing rules

Version: 1. Issued: 2011-01-31

IGP:Distribution Manager recognizes a set number of file name patterns for storage and distribution of files to the correct location. The file names are a balance between keeping the system simple and manageable for multiple variants of the same file for different channels.

IGP:Distribution Manager will process any stored channel qualified format to the correct filename for final delivery.

The ISBN must always be the first part of the file name. Eg:

        1234567890123.epub

Files names are treated as case insensitive. Therefore *.ePub, *.EPUB, *.epub will all be the same.

General filenames

  • $ISBN$.epub The standard pattern name for an ePub that will be delivered to all channels requiring ePub.
  • $ISBN$.prc The standard pattern name for a Kindle format that will be delivered to all channels requiring prc files. This is primarily used by Amazon.
  • $ISBN$.mobi The standard pattern name for an Kindle format that will be delivered to all channels requiring mobi. This is primarily used by Amazon.
  • $ISBN$.pdf The standard pattern name for a  format that will be delivered to all channels requiring mobi. This is primarily used by Amazon.

Channel specific e-book filenames

The following file name patterns must be used if you have ebook formats that need to be delivered to a specific channel for any reason.

  • $ISBN$_apple.epub If you have an enhanced ePub that uses iPad required video and audio coding, use this name pattern on your uploaded ePub. It will be delivered only to the Apple iBookstore. This will be the file that is delivered in place of the standard ePub for a particular book.
  • $ISBN$_swf.epub If you have an enhanced ePub with Adobe SWF required coding and file names that needs to be delivered to a channel that can deliver them, name it with this pattern before uploading. This will be the file that is delivered in place of the standard ePub.
  • $ISBN$_amazon.epub If you have an enhanced ePub with Amazon required coding and file names that needs to be delivered to Amazon Bookstore, name it with this pattern before uploading. This will be the file that is delivered in place of the standard ePub.
  • $ISBN$_blio.pdf If you have an RGB processed online PDF for delivery to Baker & Taylor, name it with this pattern before uploading.
