Notes, Footnotes & Margin Notes
How to
Notes of all types can be handled. The IGP:Digital Publisher strategy is somewhat different to most systems as the Notes all remain In-line until processed.
The Notes business rules are:
- A note has two parts. A note reference and the note text.
- All notes and footnotes can be complex. That means they can contain multiple paragraphs, tables and other structures such as verse.
- Notes are inserted as independent blocks after the paragraph in which the first note reference occurs.
- Notes will be moved to their correct position at the end of a section by one of the following actions:
- The process notes, publish option is selected. This makes the move permanent.
- Format processing. Format processors - including print, eBooks and Online will always process notes.
- Note references are generated automatically as a numeric sequence which repeats in each book section (chapter)
- Footnote references are generated automatically as an alphabetic sequence which repeats in each book section (chapter).
- Margin notes are not numbered.
- Notes references are linked to their notes by their sequence. IE the first note reference is linked
- Margin notes can only be a single simple text string and are inserted at their position inline in text.
- Notes can only be chapter end-notes. Book end-notes are not directly supported. This is to ensure adequate link performance in mobile eBook devices
